Hot Rod Watercolor

"Hot Rod"

This watercolor recently sold at the Front Street Cafe in New Richmond, Ohio.  It features an antique "hot rod" that reminds the viewer of the antique cars that drive in during the summer months every Sunday in this quaint Ohio river town.  This cubist style painting with its bright colors brings in some of the buildings of the town, including the cafe and the River Hills Bank which has art deco architecture.  

I have others on display at the cafe which is really a hot spot on Friday and Saturday nights with great music and a full dinner menu.  It's worth a trip along route U.S. 52 east of Cincinnati to enjoy the food, the music, and of course, my art!

Southwest Passage

 "Southwest Passage" is an abstract of many textures and acrylic paint.  Some paint was "floated" onto the paper.  Many types of gel started the undersurface.  There are layers of stained paper and rice paper.  There is a little stenciling of squares along with highlights of foil.

This mixed media piece is about 5 " x 20" and beautifully framed with black core matting with a lightly textured wooden frame.

Grapes with Texture

"Grapes with Texture" is another watercolor that started with lots of random shapes and colors painted onto the paper.  Then, gradually the shapes emerged by painting positive shapes and then embellishing them.  The background was painted behind the shapes.  Details were added with both a fine brush and by lifting out details to get branches to show.  Colors were adjusted to get complementary colors next to each other to give more "pop" to the colors.
